נאום שגריר גרמניה לרגל פתיחת הארוע - באנגלית

Dear President of the Israel German Chamber of Commerce and Industry , Miki Federman

Dear Managing Director of Germany Trade and Invest, Dr. Jürgen Friedrich

Dear Deputy Director General Inon Elroy,

Dear company representatives,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

My Pleasure to open this Investors´ Conference

I Commend Germany Trade and Invest and the Israel German Chmaber of Commerce and Industry as its local partnerfor pulling together this event.

Today, Germany and Israel are well-established partners in many fields: Politics, Academia, civil society and last but not least of course the business world.

For Israel, Germany is the most important commercial partner within the European Union as the most important regional partner over all. The bilateral trade volume had its record level in 2008 with a mutual exchange of goods totalling almost 6 billion Dollars. Having taken a blow in 2009 due to the global economic crisis, it has benn recovering already in 2010 and this year we might already equal or even overtake the record level of 2008 if the positive numbers obtained so far prove to continue till the year´s end – let us keep our fingers crossed!

The intensity of our bilateral economic relations is reflected by the joint activities in the political arena: from the yearly government – to- government consultations which usually focus heavily on economic matters to joint acitivities such as the Israel Innovation Day in Berlin just a year ago to the two official German participations in Israeli Trade Fairs (Technology and WATEC) and the activities undertaken by the German Exprto Initiatives.

I am particularly pleased to see that Germany Trade and Invest is also becoming an ever more important and active player in this field. After successfully completing an Investors´ Conference in March (at the time focussing on the opportunities of the new German Länder) this time the focus lies in two promising fields of business: The chemical industry as a traditional heavyweight in both our countries and “Security Technology” as a rather recent champion in both countries.

The opportunities to be investigated are not restricted to both markets: I believe that German Israeli cooperation can achieve great results especially in Third Markets and both our countries can gain from even closer cooperation.

This goes for the European markets where my country can serve as a very valuable hub but also for the fast growing economies of the East and the South in which Germany, its companies and products traditionally enjoy a high profile and a positve reputation.

I wish you interesting presentations and fruitful talks throughout the day and many new contacts to build upon.

Thank you !
